FREE energy and Zamil Operations & Maintenance were awarded a contract by the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) for the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of two grid-tied solar systems for transmission stations located in the areas of Dhahran and Al Qassim, KSA.
The Dhahran and Qassim transmission station facilities are 100% dependent on the SEC electricity grid to meet their energy demand that is constituted of lighting, pumps, power tools, oil filters, HVAC, cranes, electromechanical instruments, cranes, miscellaneous loads, and other electrical appliances.
The objective of the project is to allow the use of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems as a sustainable means of generating electricity in order to offset the energy demand of both sites from the SEC electricity grid. Grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) systems employ the direct conversion of sunlight into electricity which is fed directly into the electricity grid without storage in batteries.
The systems in Dhahran on two building rooftops will generate 245.5 kWp. The floor-mounted system in Qassim will generate 110.7 kWp.
The project installation will undergo in the fourth quarter of 2021 and the design will adhere to the SEC standards. The system will be installed on the rooftop of the Dhahran station buildings, maximizing the utilization of the shade-free area available, and will be installed on an available shade-free ground area near the Qassim station building.
An optimal technical design compromises the assessment of the building roofs and ground areas to obtain the required PV capacity. It also includes the assessment of the grid access and connection along while ensuring minimal electrical losses in the system.
The design procedure included the assessment and identification of the best technology combination for optimal operations, best quality and lifelong efficient energy generation with minimal potential errors and system failure.
Our team will be handling the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of the two grid-tied solar systems for SEEC transmission stations located in the areas of Dhahran and Al Qassim, KSA.
