Zamil Shipyards – Conducting a Level III ASHRAE Energy Audit
FREE conducted a level III energy audit complying with ISO 50001 with the main scope of the audit being Zamil Shipyards’ new shipyard facility in Dammam.
Zamil Shipyards – a Zamil Offshore Services Company – is a 24/7 one-stop practical, reliable, and durable solution for ship/rig repair and shipbuilding. The facility is strategically located at the Dammam port. It started the shipbuilding business successfully in 2002 and delivered over fifty (50) vessels.
Zamil Shipyards aims to be the prominent Maritime Services Provider that is capable of delivering practical, durable, and reliable solutions.
In 2010, the company decided to invest in a new shipbuilding and ship repair facility adjacent to the older shipyard in King Abdul – Aziz Port, Dammam, Saudi Arabia with a total area of 230,000 m2 with a quayside length of 700 meters.
Following the facility’s demand to decrease their energy consumption and increase their resilience, FREE energy conducted an extensive and detailed analysis of all energy streams in the facility to identify sources of waste in the industrial facility, with the end purpose of energy cost optimization, waste & pollution control by highlighting wastage in the major areas and identifying & relating gaps in energy inputs to production outputs.
FREE energy completed the energy audit and submitted their results to Zamil Shipyards officially in the second half of 2020; the aim of which was to increase their resilience and competitive edge in a fast-changing world by presenting a strategic plan for potential investments that will help further reduce the marginal energy cost as operations grow in the future. The proposed solutions can achieve a total potential savings of around 32% – most of which the board has already begun implementing.
FREE energy is honored to have provided its services to Zamil Shipyards and to have contributed to reducing the carbon footprint of such a successful and esteemed establishment in the gulf region.
